Question: Do you have recommendations for what NOT to get in a hearing aid?

Answer: My first recommendation would be to not purchase a hearing aid online. The FDA advises that this is risky because hearing aids should be custom fitted to your ear and ear canal size. Each ear canal has size, shape, and turn differences. These differences affect sound. Your ear needs to be measured to ensure correct programming for your hearing loss and ear size. Also, avoid PSAPs (personal sound amplification products). They are purchased in retail stores and online and are designed to enhance hearing for those with “normal” hearing. Lastly, do not value a hearing aid on cost alone. If you purchase an inexpensive aid and keep it in the drawer, that purchase price is wasted money.
